Variable components
Bonus, commission, allowances and other non-fixed pay, reported separately and often where the gap is widest.
Variable or complementary components are elements of pay beyond ordinary salary: bonuses, commission, allowances, benefits in kind. Two of the prescribed figures cover the gap in these components, and a further figure covers the proportion of men and of women who receive them at all. That last one matters: a difference in who is put forward for variable pay produces a gap even where the amounts awarded are even.
