Equal work

Work of equal value

Different work judged to be of equal value under objective evaluation criteria.

Work of equal value is work which, though different in content, is judged equivalent when assessed against objective criteria. It is what makes the legislation bite beyond obvious like-for-like comparisons: a role in one function may be of equal value to a role in another. Establishing it requires a job evaluation applied consistently across roles, which is why an employer without one cannot reliably say which of its roles are comparable.
